Dr. Raymond Suarez is a Board Certified Psychiatrist who moved to beautiful New Hampshire from New York City in 2013 to run Lakes Region General Hospital's Geriatric Psych Unit and quickly rose up the ranks to become the Chief of Psychiatry at Lakes Region General Hospital and Franklin Regional Hospital where he ran the Inpatient Adult Psychiatric Designated Receiving Facility. From there he went on to open his private practice and worked on the Geriatric Psych unit of Frisbie Hospital as well as Speare Hospital's Ambulatory Medical Center where he provided Psychiatric Consults. Finally, he became the Medical Director of St. Joseph's Hospital's inpatient Geriatric Psych Unit where he is currently working.
He did his undergraduate training at the Ivy League Institution of Cornell University where he graduated with a Bachelors in Psychology. He went on to graduate from the prestigious Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City before completing a residency in Psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center. He managed to publish a textbook with the American Psychiatric Association called "The Handbook of Medicine in Psychiatry" during his residency training which was translated into Spanish and has subsequently been updated through the years with varying authors. During his final year of Residency he was elected by administration to be Chief Resident. After graduation, he worked numerous positions which added to the breadth and depth of his Psychiatric knowledge. He managed an Inpatient Admissions unit as well as a Forensic Psychiatric unit of Bronx Psychiatric Center which is a State Facility for Psychiatric care in NY. He has had his own successful private practice in NY and was the Unit Chief of Stamford Hospital in Connecticut.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Suarez participated in the medical education of students from the University of New England and sat on the Board of Directors of Spaulding Youth Center.
Having done his training and early career in the inner city of New York, Dr. Suarez was surprised at the lack of mental health treatment options in New Hampshire. There were very few outpatient options and the waiting lists were long. Community Mental Health organizations were willing to help, but due to strict regulatory processes, they sometimes were unable to meet the needs of the individual. Always the dreamer, Dr. Suarez formed Lakes Region Psychiatry in 2019 and subsequently Lakes Region Wellness. His vision was one of caring for the entire patient. Mind, Body and Spirit.
He has gone on to become a Reiki Master of Usui Ryoho Reiki and now wishes to combine standard treatment options with alternative treatment options to meet the patient where they are and help elevate them to their best self.
